Deborah Peterson served as a school leader for many years prior to her current role as associate professor at Portland State University. As a practitioner, she was known for increasing equity, community engagement, and student voice while dramatically improving student outcomes. Her teaching and research focus on preparing current and future school leaders to serve as anti-racist, culturally responsive leaders for equity. Her work has been published in numerous journals including Educational Leadership, Multicultural Matters, and School Administrator and she has presented at state, national, and international conferences on leadership for equity. She earned one BA from the University of Washington, another BA from the University of Oregon, an MA from Portland State University, and her EdD from Lewis and Clark College. The recipient of numerous grants for her work on equity, her current research includes examining the experiences of women leaders and leaders of color in numerous professions. Dr. Peterson resides in Portland, Oregon where she is a consultant for school leaders implementing equity-focused improvements.
