- Contains new chapters on organic production and production for other uses (fibre and ornamentals)
- Includes major updates to content on biotechnology, breeding, and variety improvements
- Explores physiological changes associated with the year-round growing of pineapple in addition to the associated cultural practices and mineral nutrition
- Considers the impact of climate change and environmental issues on pineapple crops, and relevant mitigation strategies
- Looks at the effect of new cultivars and new technologies on cultural practices

Written by an international team of recognized experts, this book is an essential resource for researchers, growers and all those involved in the pineapple industry.

Garth M. Sanewski

Garth M. Sanewski is Senior Horticulturist with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry based at Maroochy Research Facility, Nambour, Australia. He has broad experience in a range of sub-tropical tree, vine and plantation crops but has worked principally with pineapple over the last 22 years. He currently has programs in genetic improvement of pineapple with an emphasis on fruit quality and disease resistance.

Duane P. Bartholomew

Duane P. Bartholomew is Emeritus Professor of Tropical Plant and Soil Science, University of Hawai`i at Manoa with almost 50 years of experience in pineapple physiology and culture.

Robert E. Paull

Robert E. Paull graduated from the University of Sydney with a BS in Agronomy, was involved in cotton production research before going to the University of California in Berkeley for a PhD in plant physiology. He returned to Australia and carried out research on chilling injury of tropical plants before his appointment to the University of Hawaii to teach and do research on postharvest physiology and handling. He teaches plant physiology and provides guest lectures on postharvest physiology and handling in applied courses. His research focuses on the adaptation and application of technology to the improvement of postharvest handling in a integrated and systematic way. This research has lead to more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and over 80 extension type articles. He is co-author on three books and has co-edited five including The Encyclopedia of Fruits and Nuts, published by CABI with Dr. Jules Janick.
