John D. Heyl


John D. Heyl is founder and editor of, a website focusing on Senior International Officer (SIO) leadership issues. He was professor of history at Illinois Wesleyan University (Bloomington, IL) and SIO at the University of Missouri-Columbia and Old Dominion University (VA). Heyl is former president (2000-2001) of the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), author of The Senior International Officer (SIO) as Change Agent (AIEA, 2007) and co-editor of The SAGE Handbook of International Higher Education (2012). He holds a B.A. from Stanford University and a PhD in European history from Washington University-St. Louis.
