Library E-Books

We are signed up with aggregators who resell networkable e-book editions of our titles to academic libraries. These editions, priced at par with simultaneous hardcover editions of our titles, are not available direct from Stylus.

These aggregators offer a variety of plans to libraries, such as simultaneous access by multiple library patrons, and access to portions of titles at a fraction of list price under what is commonly referred to as a "patron-driven demand" model.

High Efficiency Video Coding and Other Emerging Standards provides an overview of high efficiency video coding (HEVC) and all its extensions and profiles. There are nearly 300 projects and problems included and about 400 references related to HEVC alone. Next generation video coding (NGVC) beyond HEVC is also described. Other video coding standards such as AVS2, DAALA, THOR, VP9 (Google), DIRAC, VC1, and AV1 are addressed, and image coding standards such as JPEG, JPEG-LS, JPEG2000, JPEG XR, JPEG XS, JPEG XT, and JPEG-Pleno are also listed.

Understanding of these standards and their implementation is facilitated by overview papers, standards documents, reference software, software manuals, test sequences, source codes, tutorials, keynote speakers, panel discussions, and reflector and ftp/web sites – all in the public domain. Access to these categories is also provided.

K. R. Rao, PhD

Dr. K. R. Rao received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque in 1966. He received M.Sc. degree in Nuclear Engineering and Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida in 1959 and 1960. Since 1966, he has been with the University of Texas at Arlington, where he is currently a professor in the Electrical Engineering Department. He, along with two other researchers, introduced the Discrete Cosine Transform in 1975, which has since become very popular in digital signal processing. DCT, INTDCT, directional DCT and MDCT (modified DCT) have been adopted in several international video/image/audio coding standards such as JPEG/MPEG/H.26X series and also by SMPTE (VC-1) and by AVS China. He has authored and co-authored several books on video algorithms and video codecs. He has mentored more than a hundred masters and Ph.D. students. He has been consulting several industries, academia (domestic and international) and law firms in the field of Multimedia.
